One of the best ways to add personality to your ceremony is to include readings. You can invite your closest family and friends to do a reading and it gives them a really meaningful role in your day. It also breaks up your ceremony and gives your guests another voice to listen to instead of having to listen to me for half an hour!!
How to find a reading that matches your style.
So how do you decide on the perfect ceremony reading? Start off by thinking about the vibe you want to set for the day... is it Romantic, Formal and Classic? Modern, Lighthearted and Funny? Or something in the middle? The next step is to find a few readings that match this style and have a look through them all. How do you feel when you read them? For every reading you find that isn't quite right, it will get you one step closer to one that is perfect. Chances are, the way you feel when you first hear it is the same way your guests will feel, so think about that and just like every decision you make when you're planning your wedding ceremony, go with your gut and choose the reading that gives you butterflies and feels perfectly 'you'.
How can you make a ceremony reading more personal?
Another great way to make your wedding ceremony reading even more personal is to ask your readers to write something for you. They could give you advice on marriage based on their own experience, or tell the story of your relationship and how they see it in their own eyes, the possibilitIes are endless!

How can I include children in my wedding ceremony?
Finally, you could take inspiration from your favourite books, films or song lyrics and include these in your ceremony as a reading. This works particularly well if you are having children in your ceremony and is a great way to include them! You could ask them to do a reading which is specifically for children or if they are a little too young to read themselves, you could choose an extract from their favourite story book and include them that way.
Do you have any examples of modern ceremony readings?
Yes! You can download some of my favourite modern ceremony readings below. Whether you are having your wedding ceremony in a Cotswolds Garden or a West Midlands warehouse there is bound to be one that matches your style. And like I said, if not, finding readings you don't like will get you one step closer to finding one you do!!
